On My Love for Dawson Leery
Star-Struck (sigh).
The first time I stumbled upon Dawson Leery (aka James Van Der Beek) in person was on a spring break trip to Wilmington, North Carolina (circa March 1999 smack in the middle of season 3), where I happened to be vacationing with six other college-aged girls ten minutes from the Dawson's Creek studios. Unbeknownst to me, this was the very small, quiet seaside town where DC was filmed on a daily basis, and - according to locals - could easily be stumbled upon in the downtown metro area. And stumble upon we did, multiple days in a row, to catch glimpses of (the real-life stunning) Joey Potter whining to her sister about her love quarrel with Dawson; to watch Jack confide in Jen Lindley (who, btw, is excruciating tiny in real life) about this love interest or that; and to watch Dawson Leery be the over-analytical adolescent superstar that he was, qualifying my sophomore year spring break as one of the best vacations to date. Enjoy!
